FIRE ON THE MOUNTAIN ’19 was a very mellow retreat, and seemed to be just what everyone needed! We also learned a few things:
1) The campground is under new management. The new Commandant is intense and fiscally driven, but as she got to know us, she loosened up. Visitors are expected to pay $5 if they visit longer than 20 minutes. This was strictly enforced.
2) The flow of traffic is changed. Loop one is no longer accessible (by bus) from Loop two. That means one must pass the old entrance, drive another half mile or so, and enter loop one there. A drive up the hill finds the loo on the top on the left. It confused several of us in 2019.
3) The gates are getting closed and locked like never before, so reconsider late arrivals if possible.
4) There is phone service! Have fellow camper’s numbers in case you arrive late…
4) The campground is fully recovered from the devastation of two seasons of hurricanes! Yes!
As we sat around talking we remembered the days when 70+ made it to FOTM. Our 2019 showing of a dozen buses was perfect, but there is room of course for a few more mellow souls…
