I have a 1978 Bus and recently have noticed smoke coming from my exhaust when I am idling and a pretty noticeable loss of power whenever I am accelerating. The engine just sounds congested, if that makes sense. I have recently gotten a dual carb installed, so I’m wondering if I have just blown a seal or something. It was running great for about a month after the install, and I have already changed the oil, checked the valves, and even changed the spark plug wires because they looked worn out. Any suggestions before I go and pay a mechanic to look at it?

Sounds like it is running too rich. Try adjusting those carbs.

Do a compression test. Check all the vacuum lines. And the ignition timing. I'll hold off on telling you to put the FI back on, for now.

Thanks for the advice. And you can thank the P/O for switching it over to a single carb from the FI.
