66' bus, fairly new rancho trans & shift bushings/coupler w/ about 2,000 miles: at the most inconvenient times, on hill at red light, it will not go into first gear. As if hitting something. If I search for first I can only find 3rd. Other times shifts perfectly 9 out of 10 times. trans oil new and full. clutch adjusted. What can I look for?

With bus off, do you have the same issue?
Things I'd try....
1) have someone else shift while you watch the coupler to trans - is there any slack or wobble?
2) get it in first, loosen shift plate adjustment screws and then retighten.
